Introduction to Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie Review by Ms. H

Lego Movie 2: The Second Part movie sort of sneaked up on me. One minute the movie was not out, and the next, it was showing in movie theaters. I did not see any trailers or promotions for this movie.  On second thought, this may be a good thing. Find out why from my movie review here.

Pros of Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

Short Movie Length of Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

This movie is not lengthy.  In fact, it lasts only 1 hour 47 minutes.  Once you sit down to watch the movie, just wait a few minutes and the movie will be over before you know it.

Superheros and Some Actors' Cameos in Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

There are a few scenes showing superheros as well as movie actors as Lego characters.  Of the group I saw, I was impressed with the Wizard of Oz Lego characters as they danced together arm in arm. Unfortunately this scene appeared only a few seconds in the movie.

Cons of Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

Redundant Movie Title - "Lego Movie 2: The Second Part"

There is something to say about a movie that calls the sequel -- “The Second Part” after already adding a “2” after the title.  This is redundant and shows a lack of thought and attention that was used to name this movie.

Tiffany Haddish's Singing in Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

I instantly recognized Tiffany Haddish’s voice as she played one of the major roles in this movie as a Lego character.  Sady, this character sings lead in a song which was not music to my ears. Tiffany Haddish said her goal was to do fifty movies by the time she is fifty years old. When she said this during one of her interviews, Tiffany Haddish added that the movies would not all be good movies.  Well, she can add this to her filmography as one of the bad ones.

Lego Movie 2: The Second PartLego Movie 2: The Second Part

Lack of Humor in Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

Just so you know, the Lego Movie 2: The Second Part movie scenes change from animation to having real-life actors. If you see this movie, do not expect to laugh or even to crack a smile during either part.

It would be an understatement to say that I expected more humor in the Lego Movie 2: The Second Part movie. I watched the entire movie and can say there was only one part that made me laugh. The laugh I got was during the real-life segment when the the mother scolds the children for arguing with each other and calls down to the father for reinforcement. His response and how he said it was funny to me. That was the extinct of the humor from my viewpoint.

No Cohesiveness in the Storyline for Lego Movie 2: the Second Part Movie

To me, there was no cohesiveness in the movie storyline.  Initially, you may think that Emmet's goal is to save Lucy. But as the story progresses, you find that it’s really Lucy who is trying to save Emmet. Still as the movie goes on, you may think the plot involved Emmet trying to save himself from his future self.

Repetitive Scenarios  in Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

I lost count of the number of times an animated Lego character in the movie would find itself isolated under the real dryer in the home.  The first time was sort of interesting, but after the third or fourth time, this action became old to me.

Poor Script for Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

It looks like the writers may have been under some sort of time-crunch to get this movie out. Not only did the script play like a rush job, but it looks like the writers wanted to put an end to this movie fast. Spoiler Alert: In fact, if you watch this movie, there will be a false ending -- but then (unfortunately)  the movie starts again.

Lackluster Songs in Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

None of the movie songs were catchy or seemed to be one that would find life outside of this movie.  There was even a song titled something to the effect of “This song will get stuck in your head” -- which of course it did not.  I forgot the song as soon as it thankfully ended.

Recommendations for Lego Movie 2: the Second Part Movie

Learn from Other Successful Cartoon - Animated Movies

A passable successful animated movie, among many, that I recall was Incredibles 2.  This movie had comedy, adventure, and suspense, all mixed in together.  I think the writers can take lessons or learn from these type animated movies if there are plans to make another Lego movie.

When a Movie is Not Ready for Release -- Don’t Release It

Lego Movie 2: The Second Part movie seemed like a conglomerate of scenes thrown haphazardly together. If there are any other subsequent Lego movies, the writers should take the time to develop a high quality script instead of the low standard animated cartoon that I saw.

Assessment of the Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

Unfortunately, in my opinion, this movie was not humorous, funny, entertaining, or worth my time to watch. Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie’s savings grace was it’s a relatively short film and during the movie a few notable cameo actors and superheroes appeared as Lego characters.

A word of advice: If you are thinking about seeing the Lego Movie 2: The Second Part at the theaters, or anywhere for that matter, you may want to reconsider.

Rating of the Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars, I rate Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Movie 1 ¼ stars.

What Men Want Movie Review by Ms. H

Introduction to the What Men Want Movie Review by Ms. H

I’ve watched the actor Taraji P. Henson on several talk shows, so I knew she had a sense of humor based on how she answered some interview questions. What Men Want is the first comedy I’ve seen with Taraji P. Henson as the star.  Did she deliver as I expected? Check out my movie review and find out.

By the way -- The What Men Want movie is rated R and should not be seen by anyone under 17 years of age without being accompanied by parents or guardians.

My First Impressions of the What Men Want Movie

After seeing the trailer for the What Men Want movie, I was ready for lots of laughs. Unfortunately, they were few and far between. The most memorable scene in the movie was when Taraji P. Henson reached for and caught the football over the meeting table -- then finding out that the football was not meant for her. On a positve note, I liked the fast pace of the What Men Want movie, at least in the beginning, when she seemed to move around quickly.

Plot of the What Men Want Movie

The plot  of the What Men Want movie is one that I’ve seen in movies time and time again -- but in different environments and with various scenarios.  For example, this movie reminded me a little of Jennifer Lopez’s recent movie -- Second Act. The major difference is it was clear to me that Taraji P. Henson is a more skilled or accomplished actor than Jennifer Lopez. For instance, Taraji P. Henson is able to show varying emotions with her facial expressions to set the tone for a particular scene.  By contrast, Jennifer Lopez’s acting is adequate, but not at the same high calibre as Taraji P. Henson's.

Taraji P. Henson plays the role of a sports agent, trying to land a football star for the company. She is joined by Tracy Morgan who is the father of the football star.  In my opinion, he tried too hard to be funny  -- and unfortunatelly -- never made the grade.

Breakout Star of the What Men Want Movie

The actor who surprised me in this movie was Erykah Badu's portrayal of a psychic who apparently had other side-occupations as well.  You may know that Erykah Badu is known mostly as a singer. It was as if this part was crafted especially for her. In fact, others agree with me because she is given extra camera time at the end of the movie. If you want to see her psychic predictions for some of the other characters, hang back after the movie ends and watch the out-takes.

Predictability of the What Men Want Movie

The What Men Want movie is predictable since you probably get the impression everything will work out for Taraji P. Henson’s character. However, there is one big almost twist in the movie towards the end -- that you may or may not expect.  But, true to form for comedies, this action is changed towards the end and everything worked out.

Assessment of the What Men Want Movie

If you enjoy watching romantic comedies or even sports, I do not think the What Men Want movie will disappoint you. The downside was I did not like the amount of profanity throughout this movie. I closed my ears to these parts concentrating instead on the story. There are a few laughs throughout the movie, but I did not find any parts where I laughed out loud, except for the football catch scene that I mentioned earlier.

That being said, I found the movie to be entertaining.  Like me, you may find the ending of the movie questionable especially since there was no lead up to this decision being made.  To respond to the question posed earlier on whether Taraji P. Benson delivered in the What Men Want movie -- my answer is yes. However, there were some room for improvement in the movie itself.

Rating of the What Men Want Movie

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate the What Men Want Movie 3 stars.

Hanna Amazon Prime Movie Review by Ms. H - Episode 1

Disclaimer:  The views expressed here are mine alone and do not represent those of allgames.com.

Introduction to Hanna Amazon Prime Movie Review by Ms. H - Episode 1

I found out about  Amazon's Prime movie titled "Hanna" while I was watching the Super Bowl. A commercial for Hanna came on along with the notice that you can watch this movie free for the next 24 hours.  Since there was a time limit, I decided not to diddle daddle and chose to watch this movie before the 24 hours were up. However, there really was no time limit -- just a gimmick for Amazon to try to get viewers.  Now the notice states “For a limited time” along with the 24 hours timeframe. So even though the "24 hours" have come and gone -- you can still watch the movie if you have Amazon Prime video.  Go figure.

My First Impression of the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

Based on the action packed trailer that was shown with the female star Esme Creed-Miles (or her stunt double) performing a lot of physical acrobats instead of standing idle on the sidelines -- I was looking forward to watching this movie.  However, it was after the movie began and the story unfolded that I realized that Hanna was not the adult action female star that I expected. Instead, as the story progresses, it was revealed that she was in her early teens -- 15 years old to be exact. If you watched the trailer, you will probably think like I did that she is much older.

Plot of the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

The plot is a hackneyed one which has been used numerous times in many movies. The story centers around a couple who stole an infant that was not their own.  Of course there was a car chase that ended in a crash with the driver surviving along with the infant girl.

The story jumps ahead 15 years and it looks like the forest became the home of the father and the girl. Apparently the father ventured from the forest, maybe to a town nearby to purchase supplies, because there is a scene where he is shown chopping wood while using what looks to be a brand new axe. Also I noticed he served his stolen daughter food from a shiny spoon, so he apparently went shopping at some time during their stay in the wilderness and was not relegated to the forest -- as the movie writer expects the audience to believe.

Isolation of Hanna's LIving Conditions in the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

The writer of this story would like you also to believe that this 15 year old girl lived in the wilderness and was unaware of her outside surroundings -- beyond the forest.  Anyway, as the story continues, she meets, of course another teenager who may be a couple of years older than she is after she seemingly escaped the makeshift cabin where she stayed with her father.  Additionally,  it looks like her father did not teach her the ways of the modern world because when she met this other person with a cell phone --  She seemed to be naive about simple actions such as texting.

Action Scenes Performed in the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

This was the very first episode of Hanna, so I’m sure as more episodes are aired, you will see Hanna performing other actions that her father taught her.  There were a few action scenes involving her training -- but not anything that I felt compelled to write about.

Assessment of the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

This is a movie that may have to grow on you -- pun intended about the teenage star who plays the role of Hanna.  I think she is depicted so young because looking ahead and as the years go by, they can choose to keep Esme Creed-Miles in this role for a long time ensuring job security for everyone involved in the movie -- that is -- if the movie is not canceled.  Just so you know, in real life Esme Creed-Miles is actually 19 years old but is playing a 15 year old.

I’m on the fence about watching additional episodes of Hanna, especially given the age of the main character in the movie.  That being said, I’m sure there are viewers who will ignore her age and watch Hanna regardless.  Another negative for me was her decisions to choose when she is obedient to her "father" and when she decides not to be.

Spoiler Alert: The movie ended with Hanna being captured without her father -- so it may be interesting to see what happens next in the other episodes.  Whether or not you watch this first episode of Hanna as well as any of the other episodes is totally up to you. I would probably tune in if the other episodes were free -- but since they are not, I think I will skip the upcoming episodes of Hanna -- at least for now.

Rating of the Hanna Amazon Prime Movie - Episode 1

Based on a rating of 1 star to 5 stars with 5 stars being the highest, I rate Hanna Amazon Prime Movie -Episode 1 Two (2) stars.

Introduction to Miss Bala Movie Review by Ms. H After a long dry spell of not so great movies -- finally, the Miss Bala movie comes along.  I intentionally did not do a lot of research about this movie, because I wanted to find out how the film industry would depict the star, Gina Rodriguez, especially, since the entire movie seems to be centered around her. My initial thought was that she would play the role of a government operative involved in a lot of action based...
